We were at Gamescom in Cologne and played a game that made our jaws drop: Forza Motorsport 5. The first thing you notice is how astonishing it looks! It’s really realistic and just plain beautiful. The makers explained that because of the lack of a powerful engine, the cars looked too perfect in the previous games. Now the cars look real, with small irregularities before the race and really dirty – in a very realistic way – after a race, with mud and sand and of course the damages. This is how real cars look.

When we managed to close our mouths and got to play the game, we directly noticed how the physics of the tires and the suspension have improved, thanks to the new engine. The handling and driving feel way more natural; it’s really as if you’re driving in a real race car. Speaking of the cars: they are totally awesome, including a 1976 Ferrari!

You probably already saw this coming, but the tracks and surroundings were also very impressive. It looks really beautiful and the spectators are now cheering for you in 3D, with big banners in their hands. Don’t be surprised when they are startled when you hit the guardrail, because the level of detail is incredible. The Mazda Laguna Seca track will also be playable in Forza Motorsport 5.

The new feature that was presented is Drivatar, which monitors the way you drive and adjusts your opponents, to make sure you won’t race against standard AI drivers. These Drivatars are also used online when there are not enough players for a race and it is possible for you to challenge the Drivatars of other gamers! This way you really never feel as if you’re driving against an NPC that acts the same in every race.

The game will be available in November, so all racing game fans should get prepared for their own jaw-dropping experience with Forza Motorsport 5!
